Helping a divorce attorney win a fairer settlement.

The Challenge

A Nassau County based divorce attorney hired SVS to appraise the value of a historic Garden City residential home on behalf of a client. The woman’s soon-to-be ex-husband had hired an appraiser who valued the property at $650,000; her attorney, however, was skeptical of that figure.

The Process

Two of our top appraisers performed a thorough inspection of the property and examined comparable sales. Their conclusion: the house’s market value stood at $785,000. They were also able to document many flaws in the other appraisal.

The Result

The SVS team ended up presenting our methodology and findings in court. After all testimony and witnesses had been heard, the judge ruled in favor of our full appraisal, saving our client thousands of dollars. As we walked out of court that day, our opponent’s attorneys asked us for a business card; we still work with them today.
